Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 and 22 are almost the same in my experience. The only difference that I noticed is in their midsole. GTS 21 has a mix of DNA Loft and MoGo while the GTS 22 features a full-length DNA Loft midsole. Because of this contrast, GTS 21 feels balanced and firm while the GTS 22 provides more cushioned and responsive touches.
Apart from this, both shoes are stable and designed for mild pronators like me. They have Guide Rails that gently guide my feet and prevent them from rolling in or out much. These shoes are overall great for everyday training and long runs on the road.
Who Should Buy Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 and 22?
You should buy the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 if you want a stable and balanced shoe for mild pronation and long runs. But if you need something for daily training with a more responsive sole, GTS 22 is just the shoe that matches your need.
Who Should Not Buy Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 and 22?
I wouldn’t recommend GTS 21 to someone who needs a lightweight and responsive shoe with a much lower drop and a strong stability system. The same goes for GTS 22 as well. With such requirements, these shoes won’t be a perfect fit for you.
First Impression
For a year now, I’ve been running with Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21. They are comfortable, supportive, and responsive. What I love most about the shoe is how smoothly they transition from heel to toe and how snugly they fit my feet. They are great for long and easy runs.
Because of the great experience of GTS 21, I was curious to try out the Adrenaline GTS 22 when Brooks released them. The new design and colors were the first good impression I has about the shoe. They looked so sleek and stylish.
I used to take them consecutively for marathons and they never disappointed me. In fact, the GTS 22 was lighter and softer than the GTS 21, but still stable and cushioned. Their breathable mesh upper and a more flexible outsole enhanced them a bit. They also had a slightly wider toe box, which wasn’t a problem for me.
I still have these shoes fresh and firm. A few miles with them seems like flying. They are responsive and springy, but not too bouncy. They hug my feet and gave me the confidence to boost my speed up to the limit. They are perfect for tempo runs and speedy works and are great companions of mine.
Upper Mesh
The upper mesh of the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 21 and 22 is one of the features that makes me love these shoes. They both have an engineered mesh that hugs my feet and keeps them cool and dry. The mesh is soft and flexible, but also strong and supportive.
In GTS 21, I get a 3D fit print system of seamless overlays that provide an excellent secure fit. The overlays are strategically placed to provide structure and stability without adding bulk or weight. Also, the GTS 21 has a classic look and feel that suits my personality.
On the other hand, the GTS 22 has a new design with more ventilation holes and a softer feel. The holes are larger and more numerous, which enhances breathability and moisture management. I find this updated version more sleeker and modern based on its structure and appearance.
I think the upper mesh of the GTS 21 and 22 is one of the reasons why these shoes are so comfortable and versatile. They adapt to my feet and my running style, whether I’m doing a long run or a speed workout. They are also easy to clean and maintain.
Sole Unit
There’s nothing like a good run to start the day. And there’s no better shoe for me than the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22. These shoes are like magic on my feet. They have a DNA Loft midsole that cushions every step and gives me a springy push-off. They also have a 12 mm drop that eases the stress on my calves and Achilles. But the best part is the GuideRails.
These are raised edges on the sides of the shoe that gently steer my feet and keep them in line. They prevent me from rolling my ankles or twisting my knees, which could ruin my run. The GuideRails are smart and flexible. They adjust to my unique stride and give me just the right amount of support.
On the other side, the GTS 21 had a different midsole, which was harder and less responsive. It has a rubbery outsole that feels thick and sturdy underfoot. It grips the ground with confidence and resists wear and tear. The outsole bends and flexes with the foot, thanks to the grooves that cut across it. The heel of the outsole is wide and solid, giving the shoe a stable base.
However, I like the GTS 22 much more because they are softer, smoother, and more breathable. But if you prefer a harder shoe for faster running GTS 21 is just what you need.
Conclusion
Overall, I think the Adrenaline GTS 22 is an improvement over the GTS 21. They are both excellent shoes, but the GTS 22 has a more refined feel and performance. I would recommend them to anyone who likes stability with a soft ride.
