Brooks Adrenaline Vs Hoka Arahi: Pick The Right Shoe To Run On

With distinctive features and ample cushioning, Adrenaline, and Hoka brands have become rivals in the market.

Though both are stability shoes, Hoka Arahi is generally considered more stable than Brooks Adrenaline shoes. On the other hand, Brooks Adrenaline shoes are considered more durable than Hoka Arahi.

The DNA foam in Brooks Adrenaline is now a matter of discussion among many runners. I was also curious; therefore, I used these shoes and experienced some unique things.

So, here, I want to share my overall experience with these shoes and clarify your thoughts about them. Let’s dive into the details.

Brooks Adrenaline Vs Hoka Arahi: Adrenaline GTS 22 and Arahi 6

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 is heavier and is better suited for runners with heavier foot strikes. The Hoka Arahi 6, on the other hand, is a lighter shoe better suited for runners with lighter foot strikes. So, that’s all I can say at the beginning. Let’s move on to their sole unit from here.

Sole Unit

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 features a BioMoGo DNA and DNA LOFT sole unit. This combination provides excellent cushioning and greater energy return. After a mile of running, I feel so fresh with this shoe. The sole is also equipped with a segmented crash pad that helps to absorb shock during impact.

It is said that this GTS 22 flagship offers the most cushioned midsole and smoothest ride that Adrenaline has ever offered. The shoe also has a holistic support system named Brooks Guiderails to align the body in a natural motion path and minimize unwanted foot movements. This feels stiffer to me in a better way.

On the other hand, the Hoka Arahi 6 has a unique sole unit that sets it apart from other running shoes. This shoe boasts a J-Frame technology in the sole that guides the foot through the gait cycle. This technology helps to reduce overpronation and ensures a more stable ride.

A thin layer of high-abrasion lightweight rubber is positioned nicely underneath the shoe that feels so light and smooth. The bulk of blown rubber is also flexible with soothed touch. Transition and overpronating evolve nicely in Arahi 6, which I like the most about this shoe.

Upper Unit

The upper unit of Adrenaline GTS 22 is great at providing comfort, breathability, and support. It has a breathable mesh upper designed to keep the feet cool and dry during the run. The upper also features 3D Fit Print technology that offers a more customized fit.

This innovative printing came to my liking the first time I saw it. It holds my feet perfectly as if the shoe is another portion of my body. You should read our comparison review of Adrenaline GTS 21 vs 22 to know more about their performance.

On the other side, the Hoka Arahi 6 has a breathable mesh upper as well. The upper includes an internal heel counter that provides additional support and stability to the foot. The toe box of the Arahi 6 is generally more spacious than the Adrenaline GTS 22, which may be more comfortable for some runners.

But if I only talk about the upper fabric, Adrenaline GTS 22 is my winner.

Durability

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 is made of high-quality materials that are built to last. The shoe has durable rubber outsoles and a strong mesh upper that can withstand any wear and tear. Looking at the materials, this shoe seems much more durable to me.

Yet, the Hoka Arahi 6 has a similar construction, with a durable rubber sole that offers excellent traction and support. But my Arahi 6’s upper has torn apart earlier than I thought. If you have different shoes for different works, then this will not be your fate, I believe.

Cushioning

The cushioning of a running shoe is important to provide comfort and support to the foot. As mentioned, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 offers a BioMoGo DNA and DNA LOFT sole unit. This offers great cushioning that is lighter than other similar foam materials. The cushioning offers a soft, bouncy, and comfortable feel in long runs.

Similarly, the Hoka Arahi 6 has excellent cushioning. The sole unit of the Arahi 6 is made of Hoka’s signature EVA foam, which offers a plush and comfortable feel. This thick, well-cushioned sole unit offers excellent shock absorption and a comfortable ride.

Though Adrenaline’s cushioning is lighter, I would praise Arahi 6 in this section.

Stability

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 features a GuideRails support system that helps to keep the foot in a natural motion path. This system works to prevent excess movement and helps to reduce the risk of injury. I think this is a great attribute as it helps complete the recovery season quickly and provides great support in the marathon.

The Hoka Arahi 6 also offers excellent stability. The J-Frame technology it has in the sole unit helps to guide the foot through the gait cycle. This technology offers a more stable ride and helps to minimize overpronation.

Drop Size

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 has a drop size of 12mm. This relatively high drop size provides added cushioning and support to the heel. Though I don’t like it so much of height, it’ll be likable for those fond of thick cushioning.

The Hoka Arahi 6, on the other hand, has a smaller drop size of 5mm. This provides a more natural feel and may be more comfortable for runners who prefer a low-drop shoe.

Performance

Both the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 and the Hoka Arahi 6 have scored highly in terms of performance. They are both suited for long runs, and their cushioning provides added comfort.

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 has a slightly heavier feel than the Hoka Arahi 6 but is well-suited for runners with a heavier foot strike. The Hoka Arahi 6, with its lightweight design and the comfortable upper unit, is better suited for runners with a relatively lighter foot strike.

Overall Opinion

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 and the Hoka Arahi 6 are excellent running shoes with great cushioning and stability. With durable construction and comfortable upper units, these shoes are suited for long-distance runs. But the only difference that can change your preference is the heavyweight structure of the Adrenaline shoe. And for this, I would not take Adrenaline GTS 22 to impactful activities.
